The road was closed off for many weeks because of construction work for MGM’s incoming Springfield casino. The construction forced drivers to take detours to get to East Columbus Ave. Less people could also park in this area, which affected nearby businesses on Main Street.

Drivers told 22News it’s now much easier to get to their destinations.

Richard Jackson of Springfield said, “It’s always been a struggle going around the construction, I’m glad its reopen. I do use this road a lot going into Columbus and I work in Deerfield so it helps that it’s open.”

MGM Casino Construction continues to make progress. It’s expected to be open in Springfield in 2018.
