AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – Runners and walkers will be raising money for an important cause Sunday. 22news was live in Agawam where a 5k had taken place.
Homeward Vets is an organization that provides veterans with home furnishings to veterans transition from homelessness. And Sunday they are celebrating their inaugural dog tag dash event. a 5k that will benefit programs for veterans.
There are hundreds of people out here today to support this great cause– everyone participating paid a 25 dollar registration fee, all of which will go towards helping veterans in need.
Madison Oyler told 22News she’s been training for the run, and is excited for it to begin
“Lot’s of people have already signed up and we’re really hoping it goes well.”
The organizations mission is to assist veterans transitioning from chronic homelessness through education and community efforts. Homeward Vets provides veterans in Western Massachusetts with free furniture for their homes as they move into sustainable housing. The 5k timed race started just a few minutes ago, and those who are walking will leave at 10.
The organization ultimately hopes to create an environment that will increase stability and prevent veterans from ending up back on the streets.
