Mass. rape suspect also accused in previous rape attempt

The girl remembered he wore a GPS ankle bracelet

(CNN) – Wearing a jail jumpsuit and hanging his head, 21-year-old Angel Mateo was arraigned on charges he kidnapped and raped a 13-year-old girl while she was walking home from school.

According to a police report, Mateo initially denied having sex with anyone, then said it was consensual and that he thought the girl was 18.

In addition to a red curtain in the suspect’s apartment, the girl remembered he wore a GPS ankle bracelet.

According to court documents, Mateo was ordered to wear GPS earlier this year, after an ex-girlfriend accused him of threatening to publish nude pictures of her unless she agreed to have sex.

A woman from the same neighborhood says she now recognizes Mateo as the man who tried to rape her back in May. At the time, she reported the attack to police, but detectives never made an arrest.
