Businesses prepare for Springfield Thunderbirds games

The City's anticipating the largest crowd on opening night

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – It is official! The Springfield Thunderbirds sold out their home opener on Saturday night. 22News spoke with local businesses who are excited for the extra boost.

The Red Rose Pizzeria, located down the street from the Mass Mutual Center, is usually busy, but on game night, it’s packed.

Red Rose Manager Rita Caputo-Capua said, “Hockey season in Springfield for us is huge. We just start at 3:30, lines out the door. It’s going to be complete organized chaos tomorrow night.”

The City’s anticipating the largest crowd for a Springfield hockey game in more than a decade.
