SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – The flu season isn’t that far off, and western Massachusetts health agencies are already conducting free flu clinics for the elderly.
Seniors in Hadley, Northampton, and South Hadley received their protective vaccine this week. 22News was told that this year’s vaccine is expected to provide more protection against various strains of flu.
“Last year, it only covered two, then a Group B strain of the virus came out and that’s what everybody kind of caught last year,” explained Mandy Robitaille, an Elms College nursing graduate student.
Now is the time to get vaccinated, says South Hadley public health nurse Marge Bernard.
“Certainly I would say by now, you should think about getting a shot,” Bernard said.
She added that everyone over the age of six months should get their flu shot in the near future.
