SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A local demonstration of love is benefiting children from all over the world.
The fifth-annual Love to the Rescue Radiothon is underway at Shriners Hospital in Springfield. Hosted by WHYN AM and FM, they are looking to improve upon last year’s total of $140,000 in donations.
Shriners Hospital helps children from around the world with a variety of medical issues, ranging from mobility to cleft lips and palates. They provide these services regardless of a family’s ability to pay.
Fifteen year old Nicole Wallace-DeJulio is going home to Ellsworh, Maine after seven months of treatment for a broken back.
“She went through three years with a broken back that nobody diagnosed. They did here,” Nicole’s mother Debora Wallace-DeJulio said.
“They are amazing, they are so nice, they helped me figure out like what was wrong with me and helped me fix it,” Nicole added.
Volunteers are taking calls Thursday and Friday until 7:00 P.M. To donate, call (413) 314-6000.
