SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Some people really enjoy their work. Springfield Crossing Guard John English is one such person.
For the past 13 years, the retired Monsanto employee has endeared himself to a generation of Springfield students. As the crossing guard at Breckwood Boulevard and Plum Road, John English feels he’s made a difference in young people’s lives.
“My greatest pleasure is that at the end of 13 years, they come back to visit me when they’re all grown up,” English told 22News. “They tell me how they’re doing and everything.”
It’s a two way street for this school crossing guard. He loves the students he encounters every day and they, in turn, adore him. “He makes sure the little one’s come first,” Elijah Washington, a senior at Renaissance High School told 22News. “He does his job well more than people expect.”
