UMass held event in effort to curb high risk drinking

UMass hopes that events like these will help educate students

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – Some staff members at UMass Amherst are trying to curb high risk drinking at the popular party school.

The school held a “Visioning a Vibrant and Safe Nightlife Locally” event Tuesday night. The event explored how to have a vibrant and safe nightlife for students of all ages that is free of dangerous drinking.

Director of External Relations Tony Maroulis told 22News, “What we’re hoping to do is do a survey of the people that are here tonight, come back and have another event in the spring, and work with a number of stakeholders to try to implement some of the good ideas that’ll come out of tonight.”

The UMass Amherst Campus and Community Coalition hopes that events like these will help educate students on the dangers of high risk drinking.
