AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – 22News was working to get answers, after a viewer wrote in that dirty used needles were thrown all along the Connecticut River in Agawam.

A viewer sent us photos using our ‘report it’ feature. He said they were found off River Road.

We went to the shore and didn’t find any ourselves. We contacted both the Agawam police and fire departments. Both said they hadn’t received any complaints of discarded needles, and reports like that are rare.

Ray Maagero of Agawam told 22News, “You know today, nothing surprises me. But it’s not the focus of what people are trying to do out here. I think they’re just trying to enjoy the riverside and just have some fun.”

According to the FDA, needles can be dropped off at your doctor’s office, hospitals, health departments, or medical waste facilities.

You can also check with your local police or fire department.
