WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Governor Charlie Baker was in western Massachusetts on Tuesday.
The governor took a tour at Westfield Technical Academy and checked out their aviation and manufacturing program. The school has partnered with corporate sponsors to supply students with equipment and technical advice.
Governor Baker noted that programs like these are helping to address the skills gap and are preparing students to be job ready as soon as they graduate.
He told 22News, “They’ve got one of the only FAA certified programs in the country and I think there are less than 10 of those; the kids who come out of this will be FAA certified and will be able to go to work immediately.”
These programs are in place as a result of grant funding from the Massachusetts Skills Capital Grant Program, which schools can apply for to expand or upgrade certain programs.
