Chicopee distributing safe routes to school survey

Survey for resident regarding safe routes to school

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The City of Chicopee has sent out survey to parents regarding the safety of students who walk to school.

Since no bus service is offered to children who live within one mile of an elementary school, one and a half miles of a middle school, and two miles of a high school, the city wants input from residents on how safe those walking areas are. One resident told 22news more could be done to keep children safe.

“I feel like drivers go a little to fast, especially down Burnett Road, where I live. I know its only 30 down there, but I’ve seen people go about 50, 60,” Nick Jacuby of Chicopee said.

The survey was distributed by UMass Amherst on behalf of the Chicopee’s Planning Department. They hope survey participation will help them plan safer routes.
