Man arrested in Mass. for reckless endangerment of a child

Heroin and pure THC were allegedly found in the vehicle

STURBRIDGE, Mass. (WWLP) – A man from Florida was arrested over the weekend by Massachusetts State Police for allegedly driving under the influence with a child in the vehicle.

According to State Police Media Relations, around 8:00 p.m. Saturday, Trooper Stephen Hazelton pulled over a Nissan on Interstate 84 in the Town of Sturbridge for driving in an “erratic manner.”

After speaking with the driver, who was identified as 30-year-old Austin Thomas of Cloud, Trooper Hazelton arrested him for operating under the influence of drugs, while also having a young child in the back seat, State Police said.

State Police said Trooper Hazelton investigated the Nissan, and allegedly found cash, heroin, oxycodone, tramadol and pure THC.

Thomas was charged with the following:

  • Possession to Distribute Heroin
  • Possession of Oxycodone and Tramadol
  • Possession of THC
  • OUI of Drugs
  • Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
  • Reckless Endangerment to Children
  • Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Marked Lanes Violation
  • Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle

Thomas was taken to the Sturbridge Barracks for booking, and released on $5,040 bail.
