Liquor licenses suspended at 4 Springfield businesses

The businesses served alcohol to minors

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Springfield License Commission has suspended the liquor licenses of 4 more businesses. The latest suspensions followed compliance checks done in August by underage, undercover cops, who were served alcohol.

Hana-Saki Hibachi Steak House, Chili’s, Johnny Mac Liquors, and Christopher’s Package Store were all caught back in August selling alcohol to underage, undercover cops. The 4 businesses will each need to serve 5-day suspensions; the 2 restaurants must close this weekend, while the package stores will be closed only on Saturday, October 22nd.

Jay Johnson of Sturbridge said the punishment could help businesses understand the severity of underage drinking. “It may not stop the problem unless they change their business practices on the topic. But kids are getting crafty these days, so it’s becoming tougher and tougher.”

The other days of suspension will not have to be served unless the license has another violation within a year.
