WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The 104th Fighter Wing at Barnes Air National Guard Base in Westfield has scheduled flight training for the next few nights.

According to Senior Master Sgt. Julie Avey, the early evening missions will launch from Barnes-Westfield Regional Airport, and scheduled to take place from October 18th to October 21st. She said the pilots will be trained on critical homeland defense and wartime aviation skills.

“Our Homeland Defense mission is a 24-hour mission and as such we need to be trained and ready to respond both during the day as well during the night at a moment’s notice,” said Maj. Brett Vanderpas of the 104th Fighter Wing Operations Group.

SMSgt. Avey said the night training makes sure the pilots are ready to respond to any airborne threat in the Northeastern United States, at any time, in any condition.
