LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – Traffic was still backed up for miles on I-91 North Friday night, two hours after three cars collided on the interstate in Longmeadow.
Massachusetts State Police closed the two left lanes after the cars crashed just before 5:00 p.m. Friday. Traffic was backed up to the Connecticut state line.
State Trooper Brian Gonzalez told 22News there was one injury. A woman who was driving one of the vehicles involved was taken to the hospital for treatment for what he described as “minor injuries.”
Trooper Gonzalez said, “the accident had been cleared by 6:00 p.m.,” but the image from the 22News Springfield Sky Cam clearly showed a “sea of stationary headlights along with multiple flashing lights from emergency vehicles.
He attributed the slow-moving and non-moving traffic to normal volume on a Friday evening commute, compounded by the accident and the construction on the viaduct in Springfield.
The Longmeadow Fire Department and EMS were also called to the accident.
