PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Berkshire County’s last remaining Catholic High School is closing.

The Springfield Diocesan superintendent of Catholic Schools announced St. Joseph Central High School in Pittsfield will close at the end of the current academic school year, in June 2017.

The decision was made because of declining enrollment and a significant operational deficit.

The Diocese of Springfield had provided more than $4.5 million in funding to the school in just the last five years.
