CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The Chicopee City Building Commissioner determined that two buildings hit by a car and damaged on West Street Friday night are still structurally sound.
Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk told 22News a woman who drove from the Shell Gas Station lost control of her car, drove over the traffic island, and crashed into 100 West Street, and then crashed into the building next door.
Both buildings were damaged. The car hit the front porch of a three-story multi-family apartment building at 100 West Street, and then crashed into the brick wall on the side of of the building housing the Greek Cove Restaurant. The Greek Cove is located at 108 West Street.
Officer Wilk described the damage to the buildings as “significant,” requiring the assessment from the Building Commissioner to determine whether the buildings were habitable.
He said the woman who was driving was rushed to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
