CHICOPEE, Mass. (Mass Appeal) – When disaster strikes, organizations like the American Red Cross come together to help. Hurricane Matthew is now over, but this is when the work really begins. We spoke to the American Red Cross President and CEO Gail McGovern. She was in Raleigh, North Carolina after visiting some shelters.
Hurricane Matthew caused $6 billion in damage. So far, the American Red Cross has:
-served more than 356,000 meals & snacks
-distributed nearly 16,000 relief items
-provided nearly 79,000 overnight stays in shelters
