Veteran Officers Wounded In "Hail Of Gunfire"
Self-described "bounty hunter" wearing body armor killed after critically wounding two Boston police officers.

(NBC News) Two Boston police officers are in critical condition after being shot while responding to a call about feuding roommates Wednesday night.

The officers were hit with a hail of gunfire answering a call from a man who said his roommate was threatening him with a knife.

That man was later identified as 33-year-old Kirk Figueroa.

Police say Figueroa, a Boston constable and self-described bounty hunter, was wearing body armor and armed with a tactical shotgun.

He quickly opened fire.

With the two officers down, others rushed to their rescue and also shot Figueroa.

“He chose to use deadly force, and when someone is going to use deadly force we’re going to respond appropriately,” Boston Police Commissioner William Evans said.

“I don’t know what was going through his mind,” Evans added. “All I can tell you is he was a dangerous individual.”

The police commissioner says officers Richard Cintolo and Matt Morris are both alive because of the quick action of their fellow officers.
