Springfield Police: 2 men arrested in “drug den”

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Police arrested two men, one of which was allegedly in possession of heroin stamped “El Chapo,” in what Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney called a “drug den.”

Sgt. Delaney told 22News officers had been investigating the the property located at 76 Ranney Street. A raid was conducted at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday and the target of their investigation, 60-year-old Ramon Rodriguez, who lived at the residence, was arrested.

Rodriguez was in allegedly possession of 153 bags of heroin, Sgt. Delaney said. Officers also seized $4,330 in cash along with drug paraphernalia and packaging material. Rodriguez was charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute.

The other man arrested, 47-year-old Jose Hernandez of 14 Brown Street, was allegedly a customer of the drug operation and was arrested on charges of possession of heroin, said Delaney.

Both suspects were arraigned in Springfield District court on Thursday.
