Agawam man grateful police found his mother with dementia

Massachusetts State Police assisted in finding her

AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – Joe Halpy’s 85-year-old mother, Barbara, wandered away from her Feeding Hills home around 9:15 a.m. Thursday. Joe later found out that a stranger drove her to Springfield where she was found.

Joe told 22News how grateful he is and how Agawam Police worked diligently to help find his missing mom. His concern was heightened because his mother suffers from dementia.

“Before i knew it, the Agawam police found her,” Joe said. “The state police were here, helicopters were overhead, dogs running around in an all out effort to find my mom. And she surfaced.”

Grandson Chris Wayte told 22News how impressed he is by the police procedures used  to locate his grandmother in Springfield. Chris said “They contacted the bus line, the banks, they had a helicopter overhead.”

Just as soon as Agawam Police Lt. Jennifer Blanchette notified the family the 85-year-old woman was found safe in Springfield, a grateful son and grandson drove there to bring their loved one back home. They said they’ll always be grateful to Agawam’s  men and women in blue.
