Chicopee Police warn residents of water department scheme

The water department will usually not show up at your home requesting to come in without notice.

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Chicopee Police are warning residents about a water department scheme.

Chicopee Police Officer Michael Wilk told 22News on Wednesday around 5:30 p.m. they received a report about a skinny white man with dark hair and a skinny woman posing as Water Department employees.

The woman was engaging the elderly homeowner in conversation, while the man entered the home and stole items in the Fairview section of Chicopee, said Wilk.

Wilk says to tell your elderly neighbors and relatives not to let anyone into their home without verifying. They can call the Chicopee Police Department to request an officer be sent to their home if they do not feel comfortable.

The water department will usually not show up at your home requesting to come in without notice, said Wilk.
