E-ZPass transponders distributed in Springfield

The event will be at the Northgate Plaza

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – State Representative Carlos Gonzalez (D-Springfield) and representatives from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation distributed E-ZPass transponders in Springfield Wednesday.

MassDOT’s E-ZPass Van crew members provided drivers with the opportunity to sign up for a free E-ZPass transponder.

The state’s new all-electronic tolling system will go into effect on October 28. Drivers are asked to take advantage of the opportunity to receive free transponders before the October 28 launch. Otherwise, they will have to pay a higher rate through the “pay-by-plate” system.

Bilingual workers were also on-hand to assist Spanish-speaking drivers with information on how the E-ZPass program works.

The event was held at the Northgate Plaza, located at 1985 Main Street in Springfield.
