Doctor explains the impact marijuana has on teen brains

WILBRAHAM, Mass. (WWLP) – Tuesday night on 22News, we heard from a supporter of “Yes on 4,” the ballot question to legalize recreational marijuana in Massachusetts. Wednesday night, we heard from someone who opposes Question 4.

Doctor Bertha Madras, a Psychobiology Professor at Harvard University, spoke to a group at Minnechaug Regional High School in Wilbraham; she specified the effects of marijuana on a teenager’s brain.

Doctor Madras said voters should use states like Colorado and Washington as examples of why legalizing pot is a bad idea; “There’s more homelessness, there’s more traffic fatalities, there’s a greater amount of students using now, in both college and in high school.”

In her presentation, Doctor Madras discussed the six biggest effects she sees in teens who use marijuana recreationally. They included brain changes, lack of motivation and even psychosis.
