22 push-ups a day, for 22 days to raise awareness

Social media campaign to raise awareness of high rate of military suicide

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Western Massachusetts social media has contributed to a health fad that carries a serious message. Dozens of staff members at the Center for Human Development in Springfield are committed to doing 22 push-ups for the next 22 days as a symbol of awareness.

“22 veterans every day take their life, that’s one veteran every 65 minutes,” Holyoke State Rep. Aaron Vega told 22News. “And that number is under-reported and homeless veterans that aren’t getting other services, so raising awareness that’s key.”

The issue of suicide is especially important to Wendy Clini. “I had a brother who had committed suicide in 1998,” she said. “I feel that at this point in my life it’s a good thing for me to represent what we have here today.”

22 push ups a day for 22 days will not only increase awareness about veterans issues, but at the same time it’s good for you.
