NEWTON, Mass. (AP) — State police say three vehicles crashed trying to avoid an 80-year-old Westwood man who drove three miles in the wrong direction on the Massachusetts Turnpike and then struck a median barrier.
A state police spokesman says the driver had initially been headed toward Boston but went in the wrong direction at the Allston-Brighton tolls Monday afternoon. The spokesman says the man then drove into a median in Newton.
Officials say the man was taken to a hospital in Brighton with minor injuries.
Three cars collided in the breakdown lane after he crashed. No one was hurt.
The incident remains under investigation. No charges have been filed.
