Hancock Street property in Springfield demolished

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A property on Hancock Street in Springfield was demolished on Tuesday.

489 Hancock Street was condemned by the Inspectional Services Division in 2015. The property has subsequently been declared structurally unsound and a threat to public safety by a Building Commissioner.

The Western Division Housing Court granted a court order by the City of Springfield to demolish the property.

The City anticipates placing a lien on the property for all costs associated with the demolition.

The property was demolished with the City of Springfield Demolition fund.

The total cost of asbestos abatement and demolition is $33,750.

The demolition was announced at 10:30 a.m. at 489 Hancock Street by Mayor Domenic Sarno.
