HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Dozens of people came to Holyoke’s Heritage State Park this Columbus Day, to ride the historic Holyoke Merry-Go-Round.
The carousel, known as “Holyoke’s Happiness Machine,” dates back to the early 20th Century. It has been in its current location at Heritage State Park since the early 1990s.
Mike Rea, who is visiting the area all the way from Scotland, told 22News why he thinks this site is important.
“It’s really important for tourism to retain some of that, especially when there’s so much modern stuff available for people. It just gives a bit of texture and richness to the experience for everyone,” Rea said.
The Holyoke Merry-Go-Round is open Saturdays and Sundays throughout the fall from noon until 4:00 P.M.
