CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Years from now many of today’s Western Massachusetts children will remember the day they visited their hometown fire station.
The Chicopee fire department observed “fire prevention month” with its 29th annual open house. The event is especially meaningful to children. Parents told 22News they’re hoping the children take away lessons in fire safety that one day they’ll likely pass on to their kids.
Donna Weber, a Chicopee parent said, “My children, they’re concerned more about when they have to get out of the house when there’s a fire, not to go back in, the fire people will take care of it.”
Fire safety tips came with a tour of fire department headquarters. This weekend a number of Western Massachusetts fire departments held an open house and conducted tours in observance of national fire prevention month.
