Northampton fire department welcomes visitors to their facilities

The firefighters hoped they made a lasting impression on their youngest visitors

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – The Northampton fire department made a lot of new friends today. Families from all over Hampshire County accepted the invitation to see what makes the fire department tick.

Both inside and outside the fire house, people learned what it takes to protect the public in many ways. From teaching fire safety to the very young to rescuing injured drivers trapped inside their cars during a traffic accident. Visitors gave their fire department rave reviews.

Laura Gotshalk, of Florence said, “Very good, it’s fire safety, fire engines so it’s a wonderful thing they do, drive by every day, we never came in, today we can.”

What a variety of safety programs. Visitors were able to take home, ranging from how to keep their aging parents safe and fire free, to reminders dealing with installing smoke detectors.

The firefighters hoped they made a lasting impression on their youngest visitors.
