Vermont couple arrested in Franklin County on drug charges

Both were charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine

BERNARDSTON, Mass. (WWLP) – A man and woman from Vermont were arrested in the Franklin County town of Bernardston, early Friday morning, after a traffic stop.

According to the Massachusetts State Police Media Relations, Trooper Anthony Lavigne from the Shelburne Falls Barracks was on patrol on Interstate 91 in Bernardston, just after midnight, when he saw an Acura driving in the breakdown lane.

While investigating the driver and passenger of the Acura, State Police said Trooper Lavigne found ammunition, substance consistent with cocaine, and several dangerous weapons. The driver, 30-year-old Shawn Barbour, and the passenger, 21-year-old Katie Weston, were then arrested.

State Police said Barbour and Weston were taken to the Shelburne Falls Barracks for booking, and arraigned earlier Friday at the Greenfield District Court.

Barbour was charged with the following:

  • Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine
  • Possession of Ammunition without FID
  • Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
  • Carrying Dangerous Weapon(s)
  • Improper Motor Vehicle Operation

Weston was charged with the following:

  • Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine
  • Possession of Ammunition without FID
  • Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
