Rehoboth teen arrested for allegedly making clown threats

Police say teen admitted it was a prank to seize upon clown frenzy

REHOBOTH, MA (WPRI) – A 17 year old from Rehoboth has been arrested, accused of making threats over social media.

Police say they received a call from a concerned parent on Tuesday, regarding threats being made on Twitter.

The threats were directed at other Twitter users and mentioned Dighton Rehoboth High School.

Police tracked the Twitter account to a home in Rehoboth.

After interviewing people at the home, police say the teen confessed to making the threats.

He admitted that it was a prank attempting to feed off the clown frenzy that has gripped the area.

Police say no students or residents were in any actual danger.

The teen was arrested and charged with threats to commit a crime, as well as making threats to use a firearm.

He made bail and was released to his parents.

He will appear in Taunton Juvenile Court on the charges.
