CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A man has been charged with assault to murder with a firearm, more than a week after he allegedly shot a man in the back in Chicopee.

Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk told 22News that Christopher Reyes, 33, of Springfield was arrested late Thursday morning in connection with the September 25 shooting on Stonina Drive.

Wilk said that detectives followed up on leads, which led them to suspect Reyes of the crime. He was taken into custody by members of the state police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Squad while he was at Springfield District Court.

In addition to the charge of assault with intent to murder, Reyes also faces the following charges:

  • Assault and battery causing serious bodily injury
  • Carrying a loaded firearm without a license
  • Carrying a firearm without a license
  • Discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building

He will be arraigned on charges for the Stonina Drive shooting in Chicopee District Court.
