SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WWLP) – A Springfield man is undergoing a court-ordered mental evaluation after he was accused of starting a fire in one church, and pouring gasoline in another church.

Springfield Police Sergeant John Delaney told 22News that police arrested Erik Roque Tuesday night. Roque is accused of lighting a rug on fire in the St. Barnabas Church, and pouring gasoline on the floor of Calvary Love Church. Both churches are on Oakland Street.

A Springfield District Court Judge ordered Roque held without the right to bail while he undergoes a 20 day evaluation to determine his competency and criminal responsibility. His psychiatric evaluation is taking place at Bridgewater State Hospital.

Roque faces charges of arson and attempted arson. No one was hurt.
