SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A former member of the Springfield School Committee will be returning to the board, following the resignation of another member.

The committee voted unanimously on Tuesday night to appoint Norman Roldan to fill the seat vacated by Dr. Calvin McFadden, whose resignation became effective this past Friday.

Roldan represented Wards 1 and 3 on the School Committee from 2009 to 2013. He will now represent the city at-large as he fills McFadden’s seat.

“I am privileged and honored to serve on the committee once again and stand ready to take on the hard work that comes with it,” Roldan said in a news release sent to 22News. “My focus always was and remains on strengthening our schools and doing what is best for our students.”

Roldan will take his new seat during the school committee’s next meeting, Thursday night. His term of office will run until the November 2017 elections.
