CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A member of the Chicopee Police Department is getting some brand new protection.
A new vest, which costs $2,400 was donated to one of the department’s four-legged officers by the group Massachusetts Vest-a-Dog. Chicopee Police Officer Ryan Romano told 22News that even though people might not think about it, such safety equipment is important for dogs as well.
“He’s a police officer just like me. I wear a vest every day. It is just a vital tool for him to be able to do his job and do it safely,” Romano said.
The vests are designed to prevent incidents like one in Holyoke last year in which a police dog was stabbed.
