Elevated lead levels found at Amherst Middle School

Drinking fountains and faucets have been shut down until problem is fixed

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – Elevated lead levels were discovered in the drinking water at the Amherst Middle School.

Amherst Acting School Superintendent Michael Morris told 22News that the affected drinking fountains and faucets have been shut down.

Morris said maintenance have been working to correct the issues by flushing the systems. The school has certified lead free fixtures. He added the affected fixtures will be put back in service when the issue is resolved.
