Springfield recognizes Italian Heritage Month

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – October is Italian Heritage month.  The Italian flag flew high above the Christopher Columbus statue in Springfield’s South End on Monday.

Mayor Domenic Sarno read a proclamation to a group of people there to recognize the start of Italian Heritage month.   Columbus Day is a week away (October 10th), but the Italian cultural club has events planned all month long.

“We try and bring everything together in October, really highlight especially here in the city of Springfield and our Italian club, all the different events that we have going on,” said Stephanie Spolzino, President of the Italian Cultural Center.

The Italian Cultural center will be hosting its 5th annual Festa Italia! this Saturday night (October 8th). It’s at the Cedars Banquet Hall at 375 Island Pond Road in Springfield from 5pm – 8pm.  30-40 local restaurants will be providing food and wine.  Tickets are $1 and anyone can attend.
