Sunday marks the final day of the 2016 Big E

For those who have worked the Big E for the past 17 days, this last day is more of a celebration

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Sunday’s was the final day of the Big E’s centennial celebration. 22News found out what fairgoers are most looking forward to for the Big E’s 101st celebration in 2017.

A dreary start to the final day of the Big E’s centennial year but it didn’t stop fairgoers. Some fair goers already looking forward to what the Big E will offer next year and what they could add.

Kyle Difrancesco, from Cape Cod said, “Family came up to go to the Big E. It’s nice, I was expecting more rides but we haven’t been out back yet so we’ll see.”

One thing that fairgoers say never disappoints is the food. They come back for those Maine baked potatoes year after year. The Maine building was packed even on this last day with people taking advantage of their last chance to get a baked potato.

One visitor told 22News she’s glad to see similar things at the fair year after year.

Donna Merolla, of Enfield said, “Been coming to the Big E for 40 years, every year it’s always the same but that’s what the comfort is about it.”

Another person enjoys the Big E so much he plans his vacation around it.

Jim Graver, of California said, “I’ve been coming here since I was a kid, and so when I come to visit i plan my time to be here at this time, the biggest fair in New England.”

For one newcomer visiting for the first time it was just what she had expected.

Deb Amaral, of Seekonk said, “It’s great I don’t think they can do more, behind the scenes seeing all the horse takers and all the people who put this together, they work hard.”
