WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — A Worcester man is being held without bail after he allegedly tried to kill his young nephew.
Police say 21-year-old Taj McDonald was baby-sitting his brother’s 3-year-old son Thursday when he called police claiming he’d killed the boy.
Officers found the child alive but suffering from injuries to the face and neck that are not considered life-threatening.
Prosecutors allege McDonald strangled the boy until he became unconscious, pushed him down the stairs and tried to drown him in a bathtub.
McDonald was charged with two counts of attempted murder and indecent assault and battery, among other crimes.
A judge on Friday entered a not guilty plea on McDonald’s behalf while he undergoes a mental health evaluation. His defense lawyer acknowledged after the hearing the facts of the case “raise some concern.”
