West Springfield firefighter honored at the Big E

On Tuesday, the Discovery channel will air the documentary "Taking Fire"

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Big E is known for being filled with pleasant surprises. Governor Charlie Baker made sure to be there as West Springfield firefighter Kyle Boucher got quite a surprise Saturday, being selected as the designated “host for the day.”

It is an honor given to those who provide a good impression for visitors. Boucher is on duty at the fire department building on the Big E grounds.

As if being declared “host of the day” wasn’t honor enough, his hometown veterans’ director saluted Boucher as West Springfield veteran of the year.

Boucher told 22News, “Oh it’s an honor, it’s an absolute honor. I’ve got the Governor here, it’s nice to be appreciated.”

On Tuesday evening, the Discovery channel will air the documentary “Taking Fire,” which is about Boucher and his 101st airborne division comrades during their deployment in Afghanistan.
