SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Gunshots were heard in the early morning hours in Springfield, causing one woman to crash her car into a tree.
Captain Cheryl Clapprood told 22News that the woman said she lost control of her car, because she feared someone was shooting at her.
The accident happened late Friday night, a little before midnight. The woman crashed her car near 1250 Saint James Ave.
Manuel Puyen of Springfield told 22News he’s shocked, saying, “This is actually a pretty quiet neighborhood. I was surprised to hear that, because we’ve been here for about a year now and we don’t really get stuff like that going on around here. Everybody respects each other.”
Captain Clapprood said police found no shell casings or bullet holes in the vehicle.
Over in Forest Park, the city’s shot spotter was activated. Police were called to gunshots being fired in the area of Oakland Street and Euclid Ave. Captain Clapprood said police found shell casings. No one was injured.
