Water main break closes two streets in Chicopee Center

The streets have since reopened

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A water main break flooded part of Chicopee Center Friday night, closing West Street and School Street.

Chicopee Police Captain Jeff Gawron told 22News the intersection would likely be closed through midnight Saturday.

The streets first flooded around 6:30 p.m. Friday. Captain Gawron said Chicopee Center residents complained about a drop in water pressure. The Chicopee Water Department was called in to make repairs.

Captain Gawron said all the water that ran off West and School Streets flooded the nearby I-391 underpass. At one point, the water was more than a foot deep, so police were directing traffic away from the underpass.

The water main break has since been fixed.
