Neighbors react to violence in Springfield

Daytime Violence in the streets of Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A daylight shooting in Springfield’s South End, has neighbors worried about their safety.

A man is recovering after being shot twice on Main Street, near the Family Dollar around 12:30 Friday afternoon.

A young man who has lived in the South End his entire life told 22News, the violence has him scared to speak on camera, but he has a message.

“I want them to react to these things differently. Take more caution to what is going on now, because it’s not safe anymore.  A lot of innocent people have been getting hurt,” said Nathaniel Roman.

The shooting victim was seriously wounded but he’s in stable condition at Baystate Medical Center.

South end neighbors are on edge after that shooting.

“Sometimes I have to go somewhere and I be scared to walk alone, because you never know what could happen,” said Roman.

A longtime resident, who has lived in the neighborhood for more than 30 years, told 22News, she feels safe.

“Personally, maybe other people wont agree, but I do feel a lot safer than I did before,” said Elizabeth Royland.

Police are searching for three suspects in black Nissan Altima with Connecticut license plates in connection with Friday’s shooting.
