LUDLOW, Mass. (WWLP) – Ludlow police have arrested a woman in connection with multiple car thefts in western Massachusetts, as well as two men, also on auto theft-related charges.
Ludlow Police Sgt. Louis Tulik told 22News that they arrested 36 year-old Kelly Starzyk after she tried to escape through a second-story window of her Winsor Street home Wednesday.
Tulik says that on Tuesday afternoon, the owner of a 2004 Nissan Maxima left the car with the keys in the ignition outside the O’Connell’s Convenience Plus on Center Street, while going inside the store to make a purchase. A white woman and a white man were then seen entering the car, and driving away. About three hours later, Tulik says a Holyoke police officer spotted the car on High Street in that city. The officer approached the driver, identified as Starzyk, after she pulled into a convenience store, but she and two men who were in the car ran away.
The officer was able to catch one of the passengers, Daniel Wilkins of Ludlow, but Starzyk and the other passenger escaped. Inside the stolen Maxima, police allegedly found syringes and empty bags of heroin.
The following day, Tulik says police found a 2004 Lexus that was stolen out of Hampden in the driveway of Starzyk’s home. The officers found 32 year-old Ryan Sullivan of Feeding Hills inside the vehicle, and arrested him for possession of stolen property (the car). “Drug paraphernalia was also found in the Lexus as well as items of clothing with security tags still in place,” Tulik wrote in a news release sent to 22News.
He said that police learned that Starzyk was inside the house at this time. They tried to get her to come to the door, but she refused to answer, and she tried to escape through a second-story window. Officers forced their way into the house and were able to take her into custody. In addition to the stolen car charge from the O’Connell’s Convenience Plus (Tulik says she and Wilkins were both identified as the thieves through surveillance footage), she is also charged with stealing a car out of Belchertown, as well as charges of receiving a stolen car and heroin possession out of South Hadley.
