CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Chicopee police were able to quickly identify and arrest a suspect in a bank robbery Wednesday afternoon.

Police Officer Mike Wilk told 22News that Jose Vasquez, 22, of Chicopee, is charged with armed robbery after the hold-up at the Alden Credit Union on Grattan Street.

Shortly after the robbery, police gave out a description of the suspect’s clothing to the public. They soon got a call from a homeowner who had found some abandoned clothes matching that description. Police seized the items as evidence.

“Once again, someone saw something that was unusual, and immediately called, and it was beneficial to this case,” Wilk wrote on the department’s official Facebook page.

Wilk says that information detectives received helped them identify Vasquez as their suspect. They went to his home on nearby Chapel Street, and arrested him as he exited the building. Wilk says that officers were able to recover cash stolen in the robbery, as well as additional evidence in the crime.

Vasquez was held overnight on $50,000 bail, and will be arraigned Thursday morning in Chicopee District Court.
