A 200-foot crane is going up at Springfield’s casino site

A big change is taking shape in Springfield's ever-changing skyline.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Another big change is taking shape in Springfield’s ever-changing skyline.

There were two very tall towers on the MGM Springfield casino site Monday.

A yellow tower is part of a 205-foot construction crane that will be used to lift and move steel around the construction site.  The horizontal cross framework will be added.

The taller steel structure right next to the yellow tower is being used to lift beams and build the construction crane.

Once it’s completed, the yellow construction crane will be the centerpiece of the site for the next two years.

MGM Springfield executives and construction representative will hold a news conference highlighting the arrival of the new crane Tuesday morning.

The last time a crane this size was in Springfield was for the construction of Monarch Place in 1986.
