SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield police have arrested a man and a woman accused of selling large amounts of heroin from their South End apartment.
According to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney, Juan Jose Castro-Rivera, 35, and Daveida Diaz-Hernandez, 25, were arrested Wednesday afternoon following a “lengthy investigation.” A total of 72 bags of heroin marked “Training Day” were seized during the operation.
Delaney says that at around 2:00 P.M., as the detectives were about to raid their apartment at 122 Central Street, Castro-Rivera was seen leaving the building, and getting into an SUV. Detectives followed him down the street, where Delaney says the suspect was going to make a delivery. After a short struggle with police, he was taken into custody, and police allegedly found a “large amount” of heroin on his person.
Detectives then moved-in on the apartment, where Delaney says they discovered heroin and cocaine, as well as drug paraphernalia and cash. Diaz-Hernandez was found inside the bathroom of the apartment, and arrested.
Both suspects are charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. Castro-Rivera faces additional charges of resisting arrest and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. They were both scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Springfield District Court.
