(WKRG) – The Colonial Pipeline in Shelby County is expected to reopen today after a 336,000 gallon fuel leak.

That leak happened about two and a half weeks ago and the residual shutdown of production caused gas prices to rise in at least five states.

Governor Robert Bentley said that while gas prices have risen by 20 cents in some parts of Alabama, he doesn’t’ believe price-gouging is happening.

In contrast, Georgia Governor Nathan Deal issued an executive order against price gouging in his state.

Bentley has praised Colonial for how they handled the leak.

A 500-foot bypass around the leak has been installed and operations are set to resume today, but don’t expect gas prices to descend right away. It will take some time for the supply chain to go back to normal, experts say.
