Cookie contest a delicious tradition at the Big E

Butterfinger chocolate chip cookies chosen as the winner

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Each year the Big E helps western Massachusetts residents bring their baking skills to the public’s attention. More than a dozen competed in the Gold Medal Flour cookie making competition at the Big E Tuesday.

Today they baked up a batch of cookies made with Gold Medal Flour. 22News reporter Sy Becker shared the judging honors with Feeding Hills’ cooking legend Leo Maron, himself a past multi-prize winner. After sampling more than a dozen imaginative cookie creations, the judges agreed that Kathie Weiner’s “Butterfinger chocolate chip” cookies were the best-in-show.

“I hate to tell, you cookies are my favorite thing, I bake them but I tend to give them away, because I can’t afford to eat them all. But it’s just astounding to me!” said Weiner, a Springfield resident.

Each year, the Big E cooking and baking competitors start from scratch using a prominent national brand.
